Creare LLC is an engineering research and development firm located in Hanover, New Hampshire. Creare provides industrial and government clients in the medical, aerospace/defense, energy, process, and manufacturing industries with services ranging from applied research to prototype design, fabrication and testing.
Overview
Creare prides itself on providing highly reliable IT services to its industrial and government clients. Creare was interested in consolidating its many servers onto one platform to prevent system sprawl. In addition, they wanted their new infrastructure to be scalable to support the needs of their expanding engineering department. Additionally, they needed to meet specific customized data regulations that were not being adequately addressed in their original infrastructure.
Solution and Outcome
After consulting with WTG on available options, Creare chose to implement a Dell EMC SC Series SAN as their new storage solution due to the tiered storage functionality it provides, and the ability to archive aging data. Additionally, they selected a Dell Data Protection Suite (DPS) solution consisting of Avamar and Data Domain.
Due to onsite deployment restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, WTG’s Professional Services team pivoted to a remote deployment to meet Creare’s implementation requirements within their timeframe. This complex project consisted of migrating the existing network from 1GbE to 10 GbE, configuring VMware hosts, converting standalone hosts to a vSphere HA cluster, and performing VM migrations. Additionally, the WTG Professional Services team implemented a DPS commercial bundle including the deployment of Avamar and Data Domain across two separate sites, replication between the two sites, and integrating the new solution within the existing infrastructure.
Creare selected WTG’s Professional Services team due to their deep expertise with Dell EMC’s SC Series storage and their ability to deploy and install this project remotely. With the new storage and backup solution, Creare expects to realize significant cost savings. Today, Creare has a modern, consolidated storage solution with plenty of expansion room for its growing engineering department.
